WORK HOURS: 15-20 hours/week, Schedules may vary due to events

PAY RANGE: $14.42-$18 per hour

SUMMARY

Mainstreet Flower Market is looking for a Part Time Shop Assistant to join our diverse and highly qualified team. As a Shop Assistant, you will be responsible for processing and caring for incoming flowers shipped from various farms found throughout the world. Assisting event staff in preparing for various occasions such as daily orders, sympathy, weddings, corporate events, and other special occasions. The ideal candidate should have an enthusiasm to learn about flowers and the everyday operations of a highly rated flower shop, be creative and positive when solving issues that may arise and work well on a team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process flowers received from farms, wholesalers, and other vendors based on their species and types of conditions
  • Load flower arrangements into the delivery vehicle to ensure safe transportation to customers and recipients.
  • Occasionally will need to use company vehicle to pick up flowers from the terminal/wholesaler
  • Follow all policies and procedures when processing flowers to be placed into the cooler
  • Sanitize and maintain tools used to manage the flowers in a timely manner
  • Assist floral designers with daily orders, weddings, and other events
  • Assist with allocating hard goods and rentals for weddings and other events
  • Manage shop upkeep and cleanliness
  • Provides care for live plants to include watering and stocking
  • Running errands as requested from store owner(s)
  • Ability to communicate well with customers and handle small transactions such as pickups and orders.
  • Can answer the phone and takes orders using the computer
  • Anticipates the needs of the the florists during peak hours
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate with staff members and customers with professionalism and compassion.
  • Ability to design, communicate, and deliver beautiful wedding arrangements
  • Excellent customer relationship management
  • Ability to plan a design and communicate the implementation
  • Wide breadth of knowledge regarding flower names and care
  • Knowledge of equipment, flower design supplies and tools


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Clean Driving record and proof of license
  • High School Education
  • 10+ years' experience driving

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Ability to handle a variety of flowers
  • May be required to submit to driving record check
  • Ability to use a computer
  • Ability to bend, reach, and maneuver
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to work around some holidays

Daily Areas of Responsibility


  • 10:00 am - Arrive at the design studio and prepare to intake flowers.
    • fill buckets with ¼ of water and a scoop of flower food
      • Based the amount of buckets of what is generally received on Mondays and Thursdays
    • Ensure that the garage door area is cleared to allow for prompt unloading of the flower delivery.
    • Gather necessary tools to complete the flower in processing
      • Gloves
      • Snips
      • Chopper
      • Trash Bags
      • Broom
    • Assist with bringing in boxes of flowers and load into cooler (Small Fridge)
  • 10:30 am Inprocess Flowers
    • Process the flowers according to type, species, and place in stem appropriate height buckets. Use quick dip on all flowers (Not to be used on greens or branchy stems)
    • Ensure that all plants receive at least 1 hour of hydration before placed in cooler
    • Organize cooler so that oldest flowers are closest to the door
    • Clear buckets that are empty or need to be removed from the fridge as neccessary
  • 1:00 pm - Lunch and afternoon work and cleanup
    • Take a lunch break
    • throw boxes into recycling
    • Cleanup
      • Throw restroom trashes
      • Wash remaining buckets
      • Put away Flowers in fridge (Mondays and Thursdays)
    • Put away equipment
  • 2:00 pm - Review the schedule for the following day and ensure that all necessary supplies and tools are available.
  • 2:30 pm - End of the workday
